The San Diego Bay Wine and Food Festival Wins AGAIN

If you’ve kept up with me the past few years, you know I’m absolutely obsessed with food festivals and the San Diego Bay Wine and Food Festival is my favorite foodie event of the year. If you don’t know, you should probably check out 2016 here and 2015 here

I’m happy to report that I kept the tradition going and caught a documentary premiere with FLIX: Fermented, downed tacos and chugged craft beer at Fish Taco TKO, and ate and drank my face off at the Grand Tasting. Read on for the whole adventure!

Tacos. Beer. Boom. Fish Taco TKO is absolutely one of the top San Diego foodie events because no one judges you for eating 12 tacos and chugging 100 craft beer samples. Plus, keep your eyes peeled for delicious margaritas, live music and millions of other taco-loving people.

While Sandbar took home the W for best taco yet again, my votes went to Casanova Fish Tacos (the judges’ fave too) and The Blind Burro. I mean, Sandbar makes a pretty dope taco, but Casanova’s tacos were effing amazing (pictured above, with Sandbar on the bottom left)!

After Fish Taco TKO stretched my stomach significantly, I recovered for a few days and got in gear for the GRAND TASTING.

Once I arrived at the big show, I knew I had a job to do. Cue tasting delicious wine from everywhere (even Fallbrook Winery from my hometown!), eating millions of the best samples, chugging booze and getting tipsy during the day.

I absolutely had to try Tidal’s tamale and loved the extra touch of caviar (I might be a little biased, but whatever).

Other favorites were scallops from Watergrill, seared ahi from Pacific Standard and an AMAZING pasta from Solare.

Another cheeky highlight was an epic speakeasy through a port-a-potty into a magical Monkey Shoulder Whisky pop-up. I wouldn’t normally take pictures of public toilets, but the entrance was pretty dope.

Of course, I had to choose an overall fave of the day and that goes to…

LIONFISH.

Their seafood tostada (below) was crunchy, flavorful, unique and topped with perfectly cooked octopus, shrimp and scallops PLUS a sauce that really sealed the deal.

Overall, I had a FAB time once again this year and can’t recommend the full week of events enough, but the Grand Tasting is without a doubt a can’t-miss. See you next year!
