Yowza, last month was a whirlwind. Give me one long weekend and I somehow turn back into a college freshman. Despite many beverages consumed and my current mantra that I’m never drinking again, the past few weekends were worth it. Now, let’s reflect.
Elysian Brewing at Quartyard
There are few things I love more than drinking beer for a cause. A few weeks ago, I visited Quartyard (RIP) for a special event with Elysian Brewing. Elysian has been touring the country with their Capitol Hill Series and held a ceremonial tapping of “Said in Zest”, a grapefruit saison. The best part? All proceeds from Said in Zest sold went to the San Diego LGBT Community Center.
I also got a chance to chat with Elysian’s co-founder Dave Buhler, and head brewer Josh Waldman. Both had pretty epic stories about getting into the craft beer biz, and Josh eloquently summed it up saying “this is the shit”. Sold.
As for Quartyard, this epic space in San Diego’s East Village is on the move. While it was always set out to be a temporary space, it was one of my favorites for events. That being said, I’m excited to see where Quartyard ends up!
Stuffed! at Liberty Public Market
I’ve had my eye on one of these babies for quite some time now. Stuffed! burgers need no explanation. I mean, look at it down there – totally stuffed.
I demolished this guy when I stopped by Liberty Public Market after happy hour at Fireside by the Patio, which also deserves a special shout out. Fireside offers decent happy hour drinks, delicious flat bread and very summery outdoor patio vibes.
All in all, Liberty Station is stepping its game up and your girl’s not mad at it.
Lofty Coffee Co.
Lofty Coffee Co. is new, trendy, and right down the street from me in Little Italy, so it’s no surprise I made a stop on an early weekend morning. I picked up a cold brew (I’m a health queen, obviously) and holy shit… this coffee woke me the F up. I need to go back when I’m not grabbing a cup of joe to-go, but from what I can tell so far, Lofty is living up to the hype.
Padres Day Game at Petco Park
Um hello, it’s baseball season! For me, that usually means heading to Half Door Brewing Company or Basic Pizza before the game, consuming too many beers, getting into the game late and leaving early (typical San Diego fan, I know).
Last weekend, I wanted to fully experience the magic of a baseball game. Instead of the usual hangouts, we headed to Bub’s at the Ballpark, got into the game on time, ate a hot dog (gross photo below, but delicious) and stayed the entire time. Well, almost the entire time. Love you forever, Padres!
