Weekend Warrior Review: Women and Whiskey, Lunch at The Pool House, Wine & Steamy Buns

Yowza. After a wild birthday weekend that I turned into an entire month of celebrations (plus some birthday reflections), I’m finally back in the swing of things. Lucky for you, lots of birthday things means tons of new food and drink to share! Without further ado, here are some of the absolute best restaurants and events I’ve been to in the past month.

Lunch at The Pool House

If you haven’t visited the Pendry San Diego yet, you’re missing out on excellent service, chic decor and dining outlets that are taking downtown San Diego by storm. The Pool House is just one of these venues, offering city views and outdoor seating around the pool, plus yummy appetizers, cocktails, entrees and more for lunch, social hour & Sunday afternoons.

I kicked off lunch with a Fresca Fizz (Vodka, Raspberries, Lemon, Mint & Sparkling Wine), then shared the smashed avocado toast (because #basic), sashimi, roasted chicken club sandwich and pool house burger. Drool-worthy photos below and check out the menu

Wine, Cheese & Patio Vibes at Carruth Cellars

I’m super excited to welcome Carruth Cellars to Little Italy and so stoked that my favorite neighborhood grew by another wine bar. Unlike other wine bars in the area, Carruth offers a full outdoor wine garden for sipping that rosé or indulging in a wine flight, or six (reds only). The icing on the cake is over-the-top, full customizable cheese plates. Yes please!

Women & Whiskey Event at Lionfish

Speaking of all the amazing dining at the Pendry, Lionfish brings the flavor with modern coastal cuisine and kickass events. I’d visited Lionfish once before, so it’s safe to say I was absolutely pumped for Women & Whiskey, an event that brings boss babes together for one epic night of learning about whiskey (or scotch), delicious grub and tons of tasting.

The night started with a mini cocktail class from Lionfish mixologists (shake it, baby), then continued with multiple courses (think stone fruit & spinach salad, lamb tartare, pork belly, duck confit tostadas & more) and tastes from Dewar’s. Whether you’re a hardcore whiskey drinker or not, keep your eyes peeled for the next Women and Whiskey event. You won’t be disappointed!

Buns on Buns on Buns at Steamy Piggy

Even though they’re still in their soft opening, Steamy Piggy is doing big things. This new spot on Convoy is home to all types of dumplings, steam buns, noodles, bowls and an insane tea selection. I had butterscotch white tea and literally EVERYTHING on the menu.

While they’re still testing items and ironing out details, I highly recommend going to steamy Piggy sooner rather than later. The service is on point and you might just be lucky enough to be one of the first to try new items. See those pink dumplings down there? Steamy Piggy just happened to create those the day before we went (yas).
